Episode 28 – Toronto Indie Guys Podcast

Hosts: Arthur Marris

Episode 28 of the Toronto Indie Guys includes special guest Chris Demelo, a games journalist for the website Bonus Level. Chris and I talk about his time at Bonus Level, and how he got involved within the Toronto game development community. We also discuss fermium, based on the upcoming IGDA Toronto event coming this Tuesday, September 25th – also a list of upcoming AAA, and independent games. The episodes finishes with us talking about Spy Party.

During the time of recording, we missed the post for the Toronto Skillswap this Friday – it’s called ‘Introduction to Rendering 3D Asssets for 2D Games’, and you can find it here.

Episode 27 – Toronto Indie Guys Podcast

Hosts: Arthur Marris, Max Brown

Episode 27 of the Toronto Indie Guys includes special guest Shawn McGrath from ][, and also the creator of ‘Dyad‘ – a tunnel racing puzzle shooting PSN game. It was released on July 17 2012, and we were luckily to ask some questions about it. In this EP we discuss the various aspects of Dyad, and go into an in-depth discussion on interaction in game, and how it tells a good narrative/story.

Look out for Shawn at Gamercamp 2012! You can buy Dyad on the PSN, and look out for the PC release later this year, or next.

THE MACHINE!

TIFF Nexus Mini-Arcade

Just today, Dork Shelf provided an awesome article by Eric Weiss about TIFF Nexus, and how games were brought to the film fest.

Check out the TIFF Nexus Mini-Arcade on display at the Metro Hall Rotunda (55 John St.) across from the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre. It runs throughout the festival, and includes a list of local games made over the past year. It’s free!

TIFF Nexus has been doing an awesome job showing an official gaming presence at the TIFF. They’ve produced/held/showcased:

ALSO CHECK OUT RENGA, a one hundred player co-op game being shown at TIFF September 14th, and 15th! More info in the Dork Shelf article!

Episode 26 – Toronto Indie Guys Podcast

Hosts: Arthur Marris, Max Brown

Episode 26 has Alex Bethke (@MrAlexBethke) on the show to talk everything TOJam 2012, Toronto After Darkcade, and Golden Gear Games. Over the years, he’s had a huge influence on the Toronto game development community – learn how it all started with Golden Gear Games! Unfortunately we couldn’t have the other half of Golden Gear – Andrew Traviss (@andrewtraviss) on the show. He was one of the core participants, and founders of TOJam. You’ll hear him on an episode soon! Golden Gear Games extended it’s programming services to two games released recently: Mr. Dreamer, and WorldAlpha Sniper.

Check out Alex Bethke at the next Toronto Skillswap event this Friday: Staying Afloat, Staying Alive, A Panel Discussion.
